The Soul of Russia - West End Festival, June 2007
On Saturday 9th June 2007 the Russian Choir ended its concert season wih a programme of sacred and secular music in Hyndland Parish Church entitled The Soul of Russia. The programme was given to a packed church, and was received enthusiastically. The first number “Vzide Bog” provided a striking opening fanfare, and the first five numbers were reported to be particularly well received by the audience. The haunting “Vyeter Prinyos Izdalyoka”, featuring a setting of a poem by Block to music by Sviridov, in what was believed to be a world premiere, was particularly lucid and haunting.
Six days later, on Friday 15th June the Russian Choir provided a Free Workshop in Hyndland Parish Church, as part of its community education programme enabled through a National Lottery Award. Members of the choir were delighted that 45 singers turned up to join them and explore the intricacies of 4 of the numbers performed the previous week, in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.

St Aloysius’ Unity Service, January 2007
The Russian Choir sang at a special Unity service in St Aloysius’ Church on Sunday 21st January, 2007. The service was woven round the 10 pieces that the choir presented. The beautiful acoustics of the church were perhaps the perfect setting for presentation of some of the most ravishing sounds in the Russian a cappella repertoire. The choir looks forward to another opportunity to sing in this lovely church. You can hear 6 of these pieces on the Hear us page.
