2007 - 2008

The 2007 - 2008 Season

2007-08 was the choir’s fourth and busiest season to date. Rehearsals began on 30th August. The Choir had grown in size, with 9 new members joining since the summer. New works by Taneev, Sviridov, Shnittke, Rachmaninov, Chesnokov and Golovanov were added to the already extensive repertoire.

Over the year the Russian choir appeared in the following:

  • four Russian Orthodox Services in Eastwood Parish Church
  • a singing workshop in the BBC’s Studio 1, in partnership with members of the Merchants’ Voices Choir
  • a concert in St Ninian’s Church in Pollokshaws
  • two very pleasing recitals in Kelvingrove Art Gallery in October 07 and April 08
  • a first trip abroad to a music festival in Darlington, (read all about the Darlington trip, and see the pictures here)
  • a concert in the “Sunday at Six” series in St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh
  • a Christmas concert in Dunblane Cathedral with the Dunblane Cathedral Handbell Ringers. See pictures here.
  • a concert in Hyndland Parish Church as part of the West End Festival 2008. Report and pictures here.
  • a singing workshop for the public, in Hyndland Parish Church, also as part of the West End Festival 2008
